Job title Lead Grower – Community Growing Space
Context Holme Grown Eastby CIC is a 4-acre growing space that has been set up for the benefit of the local community.  Led by a steering group of committed volunteers, our efforts focus on growing, sharing, and connecting. We grow healthy and sustainable produce for our community to buy (at an affordable price), we are creating an environment where wildlife can thrive, and we are nurturing a sense of wellbeing and community through our volunteering opportunities and collaboration with local groups. To help us to grow further we would like to appoint a Lead Grower – This role is a fixed term position to cover a full growing season from March to December.  
Main Job Responsibilities To lead the fruit and vegetable growing on site and to increase efficiency and yields.
To support cut flower growing.
To create a plan upon which to base our growing for future years – effective rotation systems, ideas gained from permaculture etc.
Maintaining the condition of the plot – watering, netting, weeding, tidying as appropriate.
Plan and organise the tasks for volunteers to help with each week particularly harvesting produce and preparing it for the veg boxes.  Ensure the correct amount is harvested each week. 
To establish and carry out good practices in terms of sowing, propagation, seed collection, use of mulching, green manures, composting, natural pest and disease control.
Helping with deliveries.
Ensure equipment is maintained.
Support wider community days on the plot.
Keep accurate records of sowing, planting, harvesting.
Contribute to a regular blog.
To help educate the rest of the Holme Grown Eastby team on aspects of the above.
Ensure all health and safety standards are followed and staff, volunteers and visitors are in a safe environment. 
Person Specification:  Essential
Experience of commercial fruit and veg growing/market garden experience Experience of using sustainable horticultural practices
Experience of working with volunteers/collaborative working/team player
Able to show adaptability
Demonstrates initiative
Sense of humour
Prepared to undertake all gardening duties and spend full days on feet
Enthusiastic and organised
Desirable
Horticulture qualification preferable 
Experience of planning projects
Good written and verbal communication skills  
Hours24 hours per week until December 31st 2024
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday  
SalarySalary dependent on experience but up to £16/hour
